We report the use of typing based on a variable number of tandem repeats of genetic
elements called “mycobacterial interspersed repetitive units” to clarify a puzzling situation
involving a patient with an exceptional case of spondylodiskitis that initially led to the
suspicion of a possible event of laboratory cross-contamination with Mycobacterium
tuberculosis.
Abstract
We report the use of typing based on a variable number of tandem repeats of genetic elements called “mycobacterial interspersed repetitive units” to clarify a puzzling situation involving a patient with an exceptional case of spondylodiskitis that initially led to the suspicion of a possible event of laboratory cross-contamination with Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
